I mean, I vaguely remember hearing something about it on KQED, but I guess I missed the actual headline saying RAPE AND INCEST VICTIMS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE ABORTIONS EVER UNLESS THEY'RE ABOUT TO DIE. I just heard the discussion afterward.

I appreciate that many people believe that abortion is wrong. My husband, in fact, is one of them. But at least he acknowledges that he does not have the right to dictate to any woman, including me, what she does with her body. I wish all of the right-wing TheyCallThemselvesChristians felt the same way. But no, I'm supposed to go back in the kitchen and cleave to my husband and bring forth babies (lots of them, we're not overpopulated enough yet) in pain and suffering &c.

Fuck that.

Well, shit, anyway. Just keep your goddamn laws off my body, US gummint. And all of your 50 buddies, too.

Well, I guess we know how you feel.

I am a man, and therefore my opinion is skewed by my male point of view, but here goes.

There is no way the government should regulate abortion. It's not like it's an easy decision for a normal, straight-thinking woman to arrive at, and now you are telling her that she has no choice? Don't think so. I am personally of the belief that unless the life of the mother is at risk or the child is the result of a rape, the mother should make a unilateral decision. But I think that if it's a decision arrived at by both parties, it should be legal, safe, and private. End of story.

Well, Hardi pointed out, when we chatted about this earlier, that what do you know but that shortly after Alito made the Supremes, this law got introduced. Hmmmmm...

So I'm not so sure it'll get owned, with the current set of justices. Goddamn I hate it that O'Connor retired during a neocon Bush presidency. I hope you're right.

And I hope you won't move to Canada. The only way things are going to go our way is if we get reps elected who represent our points of view. And you can't do that from across the border.

Well, if Roe v. Wade gets struck down, or enough states pass laws like SD's (and I think at least one other state has introduced or passed one), this society is going to have to really talk about abortion.
