'Cause sorry, I'm not going to not talk about it and not talk about specifics. So don't click through unless you don't mind spoilers. I'm not going to be sympathetic to any whining. ;)

We may experience some slight turbulence...

Damn that was well done. It's intelligent; it's well written, thought out, and shot; it's got some damned funny dialogue... so many reasons to love Joss Whedon. Intelligent science fiction is so rare; it's easier to write two-dimensional bad guys than what we saw tonight. Even the Operative was doing what he did because he believed it was truly the right thing. (Though the Reavers--well, they don't count because they are bugfuck crazy.) Hardi pointed out afterward that the transhuman movement has a lot in common with what the Alliance is trying to do. It's just the Alliance isn't going about it the right way.

...Wash. I can't believe it. He was such a great character. And Hardi's bummed because Wash was his favorite character. Does anyone know why Joss chose to do it? Is it just that Alan Tudyk had other projects he wanted to do?

Anyway, nothing more specific right now. I'm just very pleased with the movie, though I feel a little sad at the same time.

...and then explode.

They were ALL such great characters. I doubt the decision regarding Wash was made with any kind of practical consideration, especially since we have no idea if another movie will even get made, much less a new TV show. I think it happened because Joss knows that's how life is. In the blink of an eye, someone you love can be taken away from you, and Wash is the perfect example. I had a feeling going in that there was no way everyone was going to survive the movie. I didn't want it to be Wash that dies, but then, I didn't want it to be anybody. I loved every character on the show. Even though I was expecting death, the way Wash died still really shook me up. It was a jolt, so abrupt and final, and it came out of nowhere. Y'know, kind of like death in real life. I take comfort in knowing that he went quickly, and that he probably would have appreciated the irony of the timing of it.

What a great movie, even if it did make me terribly sad.

similar deaths, similar reactions. taking into consideration the inherent differences of the characters. i was more surprised at shepherd book's death. if there is a continuation, it kinda killed a lot of whatever may have been hidden in his past.
