Guard uses Taser on man holding newborn

HOUSTON - In a confrontation captured on videotape, a hospital security guard fired a stun gun to stop a defiant father from taking home his newborn, sending both man and child crashing to the floor. Now William Lewis says his baby girl suffers from head trauma because she was dropped.

"I've got to wonder what kind of moron would Tase an adult holding a baby," said George Kirkham, a former police officer and criminologist at Florida State University. "It doesn't take rocket science to realize the baby is going to fall."

WORD, professor.

I am so staying out of that state. It's shit like this that makes everyone think there are no intelligent people in the whole state, which of course is not true. But if the cops can do stuff like this, I am so staying away from there.

You know, I feel you there, and I agree for some reasons, but I have to say - as a homeowner - somethings about Texas ain't all bad.

For instance, I've had my fence repeatedly grafitiid, my car vandalized, and some asshole even broke into our yard. In Texas, I could shoot 'em for that and I'd be justified. In California, I have no rights. If they break in my house and I hurt them, I'm liable to get arrested, and will certainly be sued.

I hear you--though as it happens I think shooting someone for graffitiing your fence is a bit, er, over the top--but... Look, as an example, there are places in Texas where you get fined for not carrying a gun.

Something about that is just wrong.

Oh believe me. I'd never shoot someone for graffitti (however momentarily tempting it might be). It's just that, as it stands, if I caught them in the act, I am sure *I* would be the one to end up in trouble.

As a matter of fact, I don't even own a gun. Don't much like 'em, tho the neighborhood has occasionally tempted me to buy one anyway.

Honestly, as they said in ST VI, "Reality is probably somewhere in between."
