Long time since my last update.

I'm doing a bit better about my exercises, which is good. I ran out of Prilosec and I've eaten all the Tums in the house, which is not so good.

Work is good. Busy, but good.

I got winter shoes. Thanks to those to responded to my question about zappos.com.

Most important Me news: I've switched my meds and it's like someone pulled a stopper out of some creative something something and I'm not going to chase down that metaphor because I suspect it will turn out to be mangy and flea-bitten. Suffice it to say that just a week or two ago it was like pulling teeth to even think about any of my stories and this past week I actually skimped on class prep one day to listen to the storytelling voices in my head. (Monday night's class was kinda sad and pathetic. Oops.)

I've turned some kind of corner mentally and was recently able to say: Yes, I've been depressed; no, I haven't been feeling sad, but I'm tired and unmotivated and lethargic all the time, and I can't feel interested in anything creative. But something went click in my head the other day, and with the meds change helping, it's geting easier. I was still an utter slug on Friday and got nothing done and am doing the same today so far except for this entry, but I'm trying. And I'm at least aware of it.

In other news, we got a kitten! Her name is Calliope. Dark tortie (tortoiseshell)--very dark brown with some splotches of pale gold.

She's 15 weeks old, or thereabouts, today. We got her from our vet, who got her from a client who saves feral cats. She'd been living in a fruit stand (cf random WTF) in San Jose (about an hour south of Pacifica, for non-Bay Area people). We think she either was abandoned or got lost, because she was okay with being held right off the bat, so it's unlikely she was born a feral. Because our vet is teh Awesome, they had already taken care of worming, shots, and blood tests for the two major kitty virii by the time I met the kitten. And they didn't charge us to spay her, even though the spay operation took place after we decided to adopt her (but before we brought her home).

So we brought her home on 1/13 and she promptly got really really sick. Like, e-vet sick. Like, transfer her to our vet on Monday morning and get her back on Tuesday night kind of sick. She couldn't keep anything down, poor baby. The doctors had a suspicion she might have a foreign object in her stomach. They lit up her insides with barium but couldn't see anything conclusive. Fortunately, barium can have a soothing effect on the GI tract because it coats the lining, and this time around it worked and she was able to come home and eat again.

Calli is now the terror of all feet everywhere. I've never brought up a kitten indoors before; my cats at my parents' were always mostly outdoor. Oh the fun and delightful challenges! Thank god she hasn't discovered about climbing the drapes. She's getting fat, too.

Kiri (my older cat) has made no bones about the fact that This Interloper Is Not Welcome and I'm Pissed at You Too, By the Way. Things have gotten a lot better in the past couple of weeks, though. Kiri will let Calliope get within inches of her now, and I've even seen them sniff each other's noses. It's not even always followed by a hiss from Kiri.

However, the tail-pouncing bit? I keep telling that kitten it's Not a Good Idea.

Here is Kiri:

And this is Calliope:

My old kitty, Locke, died last November. She was 19, and I've never posted a picture of her. So here she is.

Locke

Um, yeah. That's all for now. I have to go do creative stuff with my husband. ♥

ETA: Calli has recently discovered the joy of carrying things around in her mouth. Toy mice, toy catnip dog that's like 1/5 of her size, that sort of thing. Thank god she has not progressed to, say, socks. But she has discovered the acres of squishy that is the big bed. We got home a bit ago and there was her current mouse, lying in the middle of the bed. She's now wandering around the apartment, carrying the thing. It is to laugh.

KITTY! Cute kitty, too. I'm glad to hear about the meds, too.

And I really need to thank you for the gift. I haven't made anything with them yet, but I do know what I'm going to do with the yarn.

Yay for new kitties and better meds! Calliope is so floofy and cute. She sounds like a real charmer, and hooray for the feral cat rescuer for bringing her in to be adopted.

My Neko wasn't particularly happy about me bringing my kitten Addy (who's over a year old now O.O; ) but now they'll actually sleep in the recliner together. So things seem to be going well. :D

ALl the cats look so adorable! :)

Penguin also has a thing about carrying things in her mouth. The house is littered with 'her' toys (which were usually mine at some point), but she does look very comical when she's wandering around with them.

So glad to hear that your creativity returned and you're feeling better. Go for it! :)
And...
You should add a Warning about "cuteness galore" to the post. ♥
Kiri looks really interesting with her three main colors. Is it just the picture or does Calli seem to have the same colors, just much, much darker?
Locke really looks the lady on the memorial picture. All distinguished grace.
