Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] chicklet73:

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. I read your journals, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you for your interest in my words.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself? Any old thing at all, the more trivial and fascinating, the better. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...they enjoy piano tuning while blindfolded, and have a giant birthmark shaped like a Dachshund right between their shoulder blades."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.

I thought you weren't going to tell anyone about the dachshund-shaped birthmark.

*sigh*

You really expected me to resist a straight line like that? I haven't changed /that/ much over the years.

This year I discovered that not only do I really, really enjoy lettering comics... I'm actually good at it. This excites me tremendously. It's a complete change from what I do with my day job, and something I could see myself doing for money in the future if I can make the opportunity for myself.

Also, I used to competitively rollerskate in high school, although you wouldn't know it now if you saw me on the floor. Even won a few events, and nearly went to nationals for beginner's figure skating. (Came in fourth in regionals.)

I never peel citrus fruits using my fingers. I use a spoon or a knife instead. I have this insane idea that citric acid stains are permanent, and I dislike yellow nails. :)

I am compelled to get the peel off oranges/tangerines etc in one piece. I hate doing the washing up. I have dreams of retiring one day to Italy and spending the remainder of my days eating good food and drinking good wine in rural Tuscany in a cottage. (Though, this is a good forty years off - or fifty if I'm waiting for Rachel to retire as well - so it's subject to change).

I met my husband by winning him in a card game. Although that bet is not paying off like I had hoped.
My goal for 2008 is to start a non profit summer reading program for at risk kids.

My favorite reply to people who ask me where I'm from is that I was issued by the US Navy. There's more than a grain of truth to that - my parents actually met while they were both stationed to the same base, and I was born in a military hospital in Hawaii.

I play 14 different musical instruments because Alzheimer's disease runs in my family, but a conscientious focus on music and music theory has been shown to promote brain activity, continued development, and help stymie some of the natural atrophy that occurs even in normal human brains as time goes by. I figured I would start early and focus on a wide variety, to hedge my bets. No solid link between the former fending off the latter exists, to my knowledge, but hey, it couldn't hurt, and I like music anyway.
