Their newly remodeled store at the shopping center across from my school has tons of power outlets. UP BY THE CEILING. You want to plug in your laptop, you have to ask an employee to come out with a step stool. I fired off a cranky letter to their Customer Service dept., because really, that's moronic. Next time I want to work on my laptop and drink a chai latte, I'm going back to Starbucks.

THE CEILING. WHAT.

Starbucks is the Devil, with bad coffee to boot. Have you no independent coffeehouses with wifi?

Don't feel bad about patronizing Starbucks. Once I worked for them, albeit briefly, I was really surprised by how good they are to their employees and how good they work at being for the communities they inhabit. They propose to also be good for world markets, and while I admit I don't know much about that aspect of things, I was nothing but impressed by their home-based policies and so I believe they are just as up-and-up elsewhere. Granted, I prefer to go elsewhere just to support small business and independent spirit, but Starbucks are definitely not the Wal-Mart of coffee. No worries on that front.

(Though I HATE that they charge for wifi - I think it's the dumbest thing, and really needs reevaluation.)

Every Starbucks I've ever seen has had T-Mobile for their wifi. I've never used it, but mostly because I know T-Mobile charges something like $6/hour or $24/month for the wifi, and why should I do that when I pay for it at home, can get it free elsewhere, etc? Maybe it's different on the west coast? or... AT&T is part of TMobile and I don't know that because I'm a Verizon customer? or... or.... or.

;)

Too bad about Peet's. I liked them a little in Boston - they gave out free 1/4 lbs of coffee sometimes, and it was really, really good coffee. But their stores always had huuuuuge counters and no seating space, so I usually went elsewhere. And here, we do not have Peet's because this is third world. (Nah, but we do have excellent local cafes, so woohoo for that!)
