Memory of East Oakland

This just popped into my head while I was reading the news.
Amy and I were returning to Mills in my little blue VW Rabbit. I don't remember why we were off campus. We'd just gotten off 580 when we spotted a couple of black men with a big old sedan pulled over onto the shoulder of the offramp. One started to approach, and I rolled down my window a little. They just needed to borrow my jumper cables for a minute. So I lent them, and it all turned out fine.
But as I started to roll down my window, Amy looked over at me and asked in horror, "Elizabeth, are you crazy?"
Nah, just the product of a sheltered upbringing. ^_^
(She had a point, though. When we were first at Mills, that part of East Oakland was somewhat unsafe.)

They didn't, did they?
*edges away a little*
P.S. - I'm playing a semantics game at my journal that you might get a kick out of, and I'd appreciate your feedback as a fellow editor anyway, if you don't mind swinging through. Plus it's my first poll, too, so yay!
