Pope Benedict XVI attacks Christmas consumerism at Mass

Pope Benedict XVI has attacked the commercialisation of Christmas as he held the traditional Christmas Eve Mass at St Peter's Basilica in Rome.

In his homily, he urged worshippers to "see through the superficial glitter of this season and to discover behind it the child in the stable in Bethlehem".

And what does he wear at these masses? SPARKLY GOLD ROBES.

...the same as every year. Anti-consumerism @ xmas is almost as traditional as urbi-et-orbi @ easter.

It really is. The tradition thing, that is, although the comment interface ugliness seems to come and go. It's so weird; right now I'm replying to you in the comment form we've been using for years, but a couple of months ago I stumbled into this on-and-off new form on someone else's LJ. The Post to Journal page, however, is consistently in the new (and ugly) style. WTF, LJ? O_o

The comment ugliness is usually on the first reply, the second one (like this I'm writing now), looks like the old one. Seems they garbled their code even more than before. Makes me happy to have my writing based on DW. Allows me to lean back and watch what happens without fretting. Though it's interesting to see quite a couple of fan communities actually packing their things and leaving this time. Apparently, the comment headers are quite an issue for some activities. :-)

Yeah, it's not surprising the people are leaving. I'm not, but actually, Hardi is in the process of making a website for me. It'll include all of my fic and any new writings I create. I'm planning to blog there a couple times a week. I'm hoping to be able to cross-post to here, at least for a while.
