Did that get your attention?

An LJ user named [livejournal.com profile] anniesj just had a visit from the Secret Service last night over a satirical entry on her LJ that satirically talked about harm coming to Dubya. She urges readers to be very careful what they say in their journals.

I want to repeat that. I've actually deleted an entry in my LJ because someone who'd been sniffing glue for years or beating himself over the head repeatedly with a baseball bat might construe the post to mean that I was threatening the president.

The worst part about [livejournal.com profile] anniesj's case is that someone on LJ reported her. In fact, she thinks that someone might have done it maliciously. Which is Grade-A Fucked Up and they should be totally ashamed of themselves.

The moral of the story: Be careful what you say in public posts, because you never know who's reading them. If you want to froth at the mouth and rant and scream DIE DIE DIE (though you don't really mean it) about a public official, do it in a private post, or a filtered one. (BTW, if you do really mean it, kindly get the hell away from me because you're scary. Thank you.)

We have a teacher at my school who cannot teach, because he has flagged because of the patriot act (I mean for it to be in lower case) for his frequent travel between the U.S. and England (He is a British citizen and teaches in England as well). He's a poet and workshop teacher and he cannot teach even though he has sponsorship and no known allegiances to any hostile groups or powers.

And people are spending 50 K+ a year to be here and they can't even have their most important class. It's appalling.

They did this in Vermont, too. Early last year, I believe. It's happened a lot. This LJer was the only person to make a genuine issue of it.
