It was in the shop for two weeks. Whine. Thank god we hadn't gotten rid of my old one yet; we just stuck it back on the desk with an extra monitor we had, plugged it in, and let 'er rip--or putt, as the case may be. Boy that thing seems slow now.

On "vacation." I put it in quotes because I've been working on lesson planning for the summer school term for a few hours now, though I have no classes this week and am giving no lessons. Snggghh... sleeeeeepy.

Oh no. I looked at the zzZzZ kitty. Now I'm yawning.

GODDAMN IT, WHY DO I SUDDENLY WANT ICE CREAM?

(Those contemplating pregnancy jokes may un-contemplate them now.)

We wanted to go to the Japanese version of Howl's Moving Castle, which some lucky bastards in Berkeley are watching right this minute--but both evening shows had sold out by 9:40 yesterday morning. The Box Office opened at 9. FNAR. They added an afternoon show; how useful for those of us living in places other than Berkeley and who have jobs, etc. I imagine Disney's got the rights sewn up for the film starting tomorrow. If I ever want to see the Japanese version, I'll have to order it from Japan. And get hold of a DVD player that plays region 3 or whatever it is. Grar.

Oh well. I have secured tickets for the 7:20 showing in J-town SF tomorrow evening. woot!

Actually, it seems you can buy imported Japanese DVDs from a fair number of US shops. Said dvds are NTSC region 0, so you can just play 'em normally.

Well, Nausicaa and The Cat Returns have both voice tracks. Plus you can purchase the imported originals at most of the online anime import shops (for less than the region-1 Disney releases.) Evil the Mouse may be, but they're apparently not stupid-evil enough to piss off the anime fans with shoddy releases. Either that or Miyazaki made them sign one hell of a contract before he'd let them get their mitts on his stuff. (After what happened with Nausicaa in the 80s, the latter would not surprise me in the least.)

I expect Howl's Moving Castle to have the same situation.
